Fileformatconverter - usage Q&A

Feb 6, 2012 at 4:11 PM

Leonardo, I saw part of your previous post and I have an answer for you and anyone else so I'll post here.

Here was what you had posted:

Note: i'm converting or parsing a fasta file to fq file with the follow instruction:

FileFormatConverter.exe -i:FilterRead454ReadsRaw.fasta -o:fqFilterRead454ReadsRaw.fq

And the result was:

"File Format Converter Utility V1.0

Not a QualitativeSequence

The answer is that you can't get FASTQ from FASTA because FASTQ has quality scores. So in essence you are asking to convert from a format with less data to one with more. FASTQ would be the "richer" format in this case.  You should be able to reverse that from FASTQ -> FASTA though if that was your intent.
