DNA Portraits

If there anyone on this list looking for a pet project? I believe .net Bio would benefit from a couple of useful sample applications that are simple enough for people to get to grips with the basics of the framework. making it easy for newcomers to understand the framework is an important part of growing community here. Simple introduction samples is one way to do this.

Here's one idea that might be interesting to implement...

I recently discovered a company that makes artwork from peoples DNA. I wonder if someone would like to build a basic system doing something similar in .net Bio.

What they seem to do (from a laymans perspective) is highlight particular genes (they claim are) associated with personality or physical traits. They then visualise these genes and play with the colours used in the visualisation to create a pleasing image.

There are some samples on display on their website at [1] and a description of the traits they focus on for their "personal portrait" [2] and their "sports portrait" [3]. They also provide a booklet explaining a little about the genes displayed in each portrait, an example is at [4] (PDF).
